This is going to be very difficult for some to digest and or do. It may even ruffle a few feathers but I’m going to say it anyway. If one of your goals in life is to become wealth by your own merit, and you don’t come from a wealthy or affluent background, you must stop doing these 5 things immediately!

- Procrastinating – This takes on many forms in people’s lives. And trust, there is never going to be a more suitable or convenient time to work towards your goals. Don’t continue to fall into the trap of putting off the difficult things you know are necessary to do for your advancement. Yes, you do have the time you need to succeed. You just need to stop doing unproductive things such as; Watching TV and partying. You must shift your perspective away from being entertained to achieve wealth. Once you have done the necessary work, you can go back to being entertained all you want. The funny thing is, when people make this shift in mindset, often times they don’t revert back. Time is the most valuable thing you have. Don’t waste it!
- Being Negative – Negativity is like a disease. It makes its way into every facet of your life and wreaks havoc on whatever positive things you are trying to build and nurture. The life blood of self-doubt is negativity. Don’t be lured by the comfortable charm of being negative. Yes negativity is a comfortable place as it convinces you that nothing is your fault. Once you believe negativity’s lie, you never take responsibility for your own actions and mistakes. Which is in direct contrast to a wealthy mindset. The wealthy mindset welcomes, accepts, and learns from mistakes quickly. If you find yourself constantly at odds with other people, and it’s never your fault, beware. You are most likely in negativity’s deadly cycle. It will feed on your time and energy until it runs out. Don’t let it!
- Spending Money on Liabilities – This may rub some folks the wrong way. And I know some people are going to see this through a distorted lens because they may have a different understanding of what liabilities and assets are. However, I define assets as anything that makes you money such as; profitable rental property, profit generating equipment, a passive income business with no overhead, etc. I define liabilities as things that do not make you money such as; mortgaged non-monetized homes, financed automobiles, expensive watches, etc.
- The things you spend money on either enslave or free you. The instant gratification of “buying”/financing something like a new expensive car wears off in about 3 months for most people. But you will be stuck with the bill for 3 or more years. Not to mention all the hidden maintenance costs along the way. Yes, there are now ways to monetize your purchase like driving for Uber or the like. But yet in still it has been proven that the benefits don’t add up to substantial gains in the long run. I know people love their fancy things, but wait until you can truly afford them if you must. Stop spending money on liabilities and start investing in assets to better your chances of becoming wealthy.

- Consuming Unhealthy Food and Substances – You know, some are still surprised at how important a role what they consume plays in their success? Have you ever put cheap gas in a car that requires premium? It performs a bit differently doesn’t it? If you are hoping to achieve something as high energy performance as wealth, you will likely need to consume food that nurtures peak performance. Most people indulge their taste buds based on what they were raised on or advertised to the most. If healthy options have historically fallen into those categories for you, then consider yourself lucky. I know there is currently a big push to decriminalize some drugs and substances that for years have been considered otherwise. I also know there are generations of substance abuse victims who are being lured by this propaganda machine. I will say this; arsenic is also a natural substance, as well as oleander. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that because something you enjoy doing is accepted, it’s also good for you. Stop consuming foods and substances that restrict your performance.
- Complaining – I can see your eyes rolling as I write this. I know, I know, complaining is one of those things people feel is a right and sometimes even a duty to do. But I’m not talking about speaking up for yourself. I’m talking about complaining about do what needs to be done. Oh how people love to complain. People complain soo much that they forget about what they have already achieved. This is dangerous! For the uninitiated; pursuing growth and change can be a harsh and constant reflection of what obstacles exist between you and fulfilling your goals. Those who focus their energy on complaining often lose the steam needed to propel themselves through the ups and downs of the wealth building journey. Make no mistake, it is a journey. One that requires the right mindset and energy to complete. Stop complaining and do what needs to be done.
I am aware that we are all more or less creatures of habit. And there are always extenuating circumstance. Often times our intentions are solid and we may even possess the tools and resources needed to get us where went need and want to go. But for whatever reason, we continually fall short of our mark in terms of realization and fulfillment. From personal experience I can assure you that if you stop doing these 5 things, even for a short period of time, you will see a difference.
