Here are 12 spontaneous things you can do all year long to add value and purpose to your life and maybe even the lives of others.

1. Save a life

This may sound to be one of the more difficult things on the list to do as in theory it involves someone being in some sort of peril. However in reality, it doesn’t need to be that complicated at all. Try not to envision a tragic scene where you swoop in and magically become a healer when you hear the words “save a life”. If it happens that way, that’s fine to, but there are other ways as well; you could give blood, you could help someone financially who is about to lose everything, you can help someone battling with addiction, etc. You decide. You will know when the opportunity presents itself. It’s up to you to do it…

2. Sing And Dance In Public

A lot of people may do this for a living, but few do it unpretentiously and spontaneously just because. It can be exhilarating, humiliating and freeing all at the same time. When you do it, go for maximum exposure and have fun! Worst case scenario; you will lighten up the mood and get some laughs, eye-rolls and maybe a frown or two.

3. Tell Everyone You See “I love you”

I know what you are thinking – “I don’t want to tell that creepy guy that watches me at the gas station “I love you”! LOL Relax, and don’t be naïve. Yes’ safety first in all things. However, you must know that sincerely telling someone “I love you” in a non-sexual way is one of the most disarming things you can do. We as humans (in most parts of the world) are hardwired to expect confrontation and resistance as it pertains to person-to-person interaction. So telling someone you love them usually provides for a much needed sense of calm and peace for both the giver and receiver…

4. Sleep Outside

If you are an avid camper or outdoorsman, you already know why this is on the list. Our day to day modern existence has created a great disconnect between us and nature. The natural world is all round us but we purposely estrange ourselves from it as if it’s not necessary for our existence. Realign yourself with nature by sleeping outside at least once this year. No, you don’t need to be naked or harmfully exposed to the elements. However, laying under the stars in an area away from modern civilization has a way of reviving clarity in our lives.

5. Be Productive

Take a full day to start and complete tasks. Focus on winnable battles and things you have set aside doing for whatever reason. It’s time to clear out the clutter, stop procrastinating, and just get things done.

6. Volunteer Your Time

How many times have you told yourself you where going to do this one? I know, a lot. So I won’t beat a dead horse on this then. Do it!

7. Break Something

When was the last time you felt intensely alive, like a kid popping bubbles for the first time? If it’s been a long while, it may be time for you to lose control a little. An easy way to do this is to break something. Disclaimer: (I ‘am not condoning or telling you to display harmful aggressive behavior in any way). Now, go smash the hell out of something! In a controlled, safe environment of course. (Honestly, this should not involve harm to yourself, other people, or other people’s property in any way). Have fun…

8. Fix Something

Fixing something is an excellent way to introduce calm and the feeling of accomplishment into your life. This can be as simple as mending your fence or as complicated as changing your car transmission. The point is to get your hands dirty fixing something you care about.

9. Start A New Hobby

When starting a new hobby, try to pick something that you don’t have prior knowledge of. The objective of this task is to truly find a new interest. Doing something completely new and foreign helps you discover new and exciting things about yourself that may lead to other fulfillment.

10. Try A New Food

Food has a distinctive way of memorializing timeless moments and memories. Try a food you have never had before to mark an important event in your life.

11. Make Something

Some people paint pictures, some throw pottery, some design clothes. Making things you conceive of gives you a unique ability to materialize the synergy between form and function in a tangible way. And improves your visionary skills. If you are not someone that does this on a regular basis, Make it a point to do so.

12. Just Go

Make time to hop in/on your favorite mode of transportation and just go. Don’t plan a destination, just leave on a whim and go. Enjoy the journey and wherever the adventure leads you.

Ideally one could do each of these 12 things for a month out of the year. Share this article and leave your thoughts in the comments below. Thank you for your time!
